Our Afterschool Sessions provide a fun, supportive environment to build confidence in the water while learning essential surfing techniques.

Our afterschool sessions are the perfect way for tamariki to unwind, grow their surf skills, and connect with friends after a busy school day. Set in a safe, supportive environment, each session blends ocean time with structured technique training designed to build lifelong confidence in the water.

We aim to make surfing as accessible as possible for local families while offering high-quality coaching, personalised feedback, and a supportive learning environment.

Our Afterschool Surf Lessons are priced as a term-long programme to encourage consistent learning and progress however booking for individual sessions is also available.

  • Term 1 2026 Weekly: Tuesday 10th February - Tuesday 31st March

    NOTE: If you are joining partway through a term simply purchase the ‘Term / 8 session’ option and any missed sessions will be carried over into the following term.

  • Term Price:

    • $280 NZD per student (8 sessions at $35.00 Per Session when booking for a full term)

    • Covers a full term of weekly afterschool lessons (8 sessions per term - please see dates above)

    • Best value for consistent progress and confidence-building

    One-Off / Casual Sessions:

    • $45 NZD per session

    • Great for those wanting to try surfing out or join casually when spots are available

    All of our coaches are Surfing NZ certified, experienced in working with youth, and passionate about helping every student grow in both skill and confidence.

    We provide safe, soft-top surfboards suited to your child’s height and ability. Just bring a wetsuit, towel, and your surf stoke!

    Sky’s Surf School is all about building confidence, friendships, and connection to the ocean. Our afterschool groups are welcoming, inclusive, and designed to help kids thrive—both in the surf and beyond.

  • At Sky’s Surf School, the safety and wellbeing of our students always come first.

    If weather or ocean conditions are unsafe, we will postpone the session and notify all families as early as possible. We’ll always do our best to reschedule the session to an alternative date within the term, ensuring your child doesn’t miss out on valuable time in the water.

    We’re constantly monitoring swell, wind, tides, and local forecasts — and will only run sessions when it’s safe and suitable for learning.

  • Cancellation by us:

    At Sky’s Surf School, safety comes first. If weather or ocean conditions are unsafe, we may cancel the session. In this case, you’ll be notified as early as possible, and the session will be rescheduled to a later date.

    Cancellation by you: If you need to cancel your session, we require at least 24 hours’ notice. With sufficient notice, you can transfer your booking to another available session. Please note, we do not offer refunds at any time. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the session will be void and cannot be transferred.

After School Lesson

FAQ for Afterschool Sessions

  • Yes, you can! Simply purchase the ‘Term’ option for the current term, and any missed sessions will be added to the end of your programme or carried over into the following term. We’re all about flexibility and making sure you get the most out of your time with us!

  • Yes! If your child has their own board and wants to use it, they’re welcome to bring it along. We’ll still have boards available to use if needed.

  • Please bring a wetsuit, towel, warm clothes for after the session, and a drink bottle. We provide the surfboards and all other equipment needed.

  • Safety always comes first. If conditions are unsafe, we will postpone the session and notify you as early as possible. If the waves are just too small or flat (but still safe), we’ll switch to a fun land-based session with technique training, games, or ocean knowledge activities to keep the learning going.

  • Not at all! Our sessions are designed for all skill levels. Whether it’s your child’s first time in the surf or they’re ready to take their skills further, we’ve got them covered and tailor our sessions to suit each students needs.
